Porporela
About the place
The name Porporela is a derivative of the Latin word purpure, which translated into Croatian means an artificial series of reefs, shells, rocks or a coast built from a series of reefs. It was first mentioned in Venetian sources on January 26, 1281, and in Dubrovnik in 1367 it was mentioned under the name porporaria. From that word came the derivative and today's name Porporela.
